Chiropractics is a non-surgical and non-drug medical practice which treats nervous and musculoskeletal system disorders through spinal manipulation. Millions of people visit a chiropractor each year for care, most often for assistance with back pain. Chiropractic care for people suffering from lower back pain has been shown to be safe and effective. Studies have indeed shown that chiropractic strengthening of the spinal cord is one of the very few methods that can effectively treat lower back pain.next
At one time or another, nearly 90 per cent of the population suffers from lower back pain. It is one of the most common reasons people are missing out on work. Back pain often causes undetectable pain. However, when a cause is known, it is most commonly associated with pinching nerves, muscle injury, spinal nerves strain, sliding or ruptured disks or arthritis. A well-educated Chiropractor can easily determine the root cause of the pain. They will make spinal changes after determining the cause, to relieve pain and discomfort.
Some people hesitate to visit a chiropractor, especially as they don’t know what to expect. A complete history of patient health is taken upon a typical first visit. A chiropractor consultation will also be given to patients where the chiropractic specialist can do a spine-focused test. Sometimes, but now always before their initial manipulation, patients will be sent for a spinal x-ray.
Chiropractors will almost always take the time for first time patients to educate them about what chiropractic care is and how it works. They’ll go over procedures and help patients feel comfortable. This education is particularly relevant for those patients concerned about chiropractic treatment
Chiropractors will give the patient their initial chiropractic adjustment or manipulation on most first visits. For those receiving back pain treatment the technique will be the first of several. Adjustments of chiropractise minimize subluxation. Patients should experience increased range of motion and decreased nerve pain after the adjustment. Most patients will experience joint cavitations or cracking as modified but not always. If not, this is often because the patient is stressed and incapable of calming enough to be treated properly. In such situations, pre-adjustment chiropractors may treat patients with relaxation, fire, or massage during repeated treatment sessions.
A treatment plan will also be prescribed during the initial visit. Typically patients with lower back pain will need to be changed a few days a week, at least in the beginning. In time, as discomfort starts to decrease manipulations will gradually spread further apart. While most patients seeking chiropractic treatment for lower back pain do report good results, there is no benefit to a minority few. If no improvement is noted within 4-6 weeks, treatment stoppage is generally recommended
